Dellamarie Parrilli creates a new visual language, retaining artistic soul as it shatters limits in her new exhibit,”Breaking All Barriers” which is being shown by appointment at her loft space, Parrilli Fine Art, Hollywood, CA. She continues her unique journey exploring three dimensional painting, and expanding viewers’ modern sensibilities with her intrepid creativity when she dances with paint.
She is less interested in both Eastern and Western traditions and concentrates on outcomes that reflect her own authenticity and originality. She gives weight to movement in the painting process. Relying on brush and palette knife, her hands and arms are crucial in layering pigment.
Life experience still informs her work not only through a narrative focus but also in the very act of painting, the actual physicality of it. Energy, urgency and creative expression are present. She sees these characteristics as a breakthrough, a refusal to accept limitations. She is tapped into her subliminal power and passion as an artist. Her art process and letting go of limitations shifts viewers’ from the surface to an understanding of deeper spatial presence with raw emotion.

Her oeuvre alters our conventional world view. In the current exhibit, “Breaking All Barriers” identifies the changes in the picture plane through space and the variance between perception and physical reality. A new discernible language emerges retaining the artworks’ soul while expanding all parameters. Parrilli tells us her work grows out of Abstract Expressionism and it is not confined by it. By shifting painting from illusionistic space into the physical, she overturns the historical dependence on the picture plane as the defining conditions of painting. Parrilli describes this as analog 3D with images extended outward to create the experience as both painterly and spatial.
Light, shadow, and movement are active participants and destroy the wall between painting and space, the barrier between perception and physical reality. This becomes a new pictorial language, with brushwork driven by instinct, rhythm and sensual engagement. The current work is a trajectory developed over twenty years. From Into The Light a former show, where Parrilli began working with polycarbonate and light as elements. In Beyond 2 D Encounters With Dimensionality, she has become a formidable force by freeing painting from its two-dimensional limitations.
One is reminded that Parrilli was a dancer and singer before a serious illness stopped her performing career. She chose to create a new career literally dancing with paint, using upper body strength to create movement with balletic strokes that come alive with a capacious use of paint. Parrilli’s use of space and volume, rhythm and sound has allowed her a kind of synesthesia by painting music and dance in her artwork. She uses the energy of the lyrical and moving self as metaphor in paint, color, and depth. There’s poetry in the idea that Parrilli forged a new path in spite of physical obstacles she faced. She found a way to express her love of art in a new expansive way, in spite of the circumstances. One is impressed with the humanity, heart and beauty that she has brought to the world. For that, and for her grit and determination we are gifted with her talent. G&S
