My father had taught me to be practical and showed me how to construct things that would be of beneficial use in the years to come. My mother inspired that practicality and enhanced it by encouraging creativity.
In school, I was an average student academically, but I seemed to excel in shop classes, woodworking, metal, even sewing.
After high school, I attended Queensborough Community College, where I discovered theater and became a part of the technical crew building sets and props. After two years, I transferred to Queens College, where not only did I pursue my theater degree, but I also found my passion in the fine arts. I fell in love with ceramics, and every chance I got, I worked in the ceramic studio.
While looking for bases for some of my ceramic sculptures, I discovered a local stone yard. On a whim, I bought a stone, and I set out to try my skills and creativity and began my first stone sculpture. I had a few tools lying around, and after months of working on this piece, I knew this was the direction I wanted to go.
I studied at the New School in NYC with the stone sculptor Phillip Pavia. Over the next few years, I would learn about working in marble, and more importantly, I would discover a whole new world of materials and tools.
In 1975, I set up my little studio in a basement space in Greenwich Village. I work in several different media, but stone and wood are my passions. Numerous galleries have exhibited my works, and they are also part of private collections.
