Wassily Kandinsky

1866 – 1944

Kadinsky was a Russian painter, born in Moscow, who is recognized as the first to paint a body of abstract work.  He taught law at the University of Dorpat and did not start painting until he was 30.  After some time in Germamy, Kandinsky moved to France in 1933 where he lived and painted until his death.  He became a French citizen in 1939.
